Astrology Will Not Die

We have to talk about Astrology

It's everywhere now. Most men over 30 years old have barely noticed. Go talk to females (and some males) about it. They’ll educate you on it in a mostly serious (but sometimes not) way. My female circle is deep into astrology, educated professionals with advanced degrees.

It’s subtle, sneaking into places like the modern dating scene. Star signs are dominating profiles. Even giants like Amazon and Spotify are cashing in, pushing shopping horoscopes, audio birth charts, and cosmic playlists.

It doesn’t look like a passing trend. It’ll pop up in the news as well if you pay attention.

You can see the astrology boom in numbers. In 2021, the global astrology market hit a staggering $12.8 billion, leaping from just $2.2 billion in 2018. By 2031? We're looking at a projected $22.8 billion industry.

YouGov reports that a quarter of Americans are on board. The younger crowd is driving this skyrocketing interest.

Tik-Tok and Astrology

Some people blame Tik-Tok for Astrology taking off. There may be some truth to that. Social media and apps have opened the floodgates for astrological content, with platforms like TikTok leading the charge.

Interestingly, the US government is eyeing a TikTok ban over concerns of data privacy and China's control over the app's algorithm. The fear is China may influence the American public in ways detrimental to the US government.

Astrology isn’t only an American thing. It is deeply entrenched in many countries, notably India and China and plays a critical role in marital decisions through the analysis of astrological compatibility.

Astrology's popularity in China dwarfs that in the U.S., consistently ranking among the top five mobile searches. A substantial 55% of Chinese citizens, have astrological beliefs, often showcasing their zodiac signs on resumes and dating profiles, deeply integrating these ancient practices into their daily lives. This raises significant questions about cultural influence and its implications for global digital governance and identity formation.

Here is a provocative conspiracy theory you haven’t heard before: could China be actively promoting astrology in America via the TikTok algorithm as a subtle instrument of cultural influence?

Criticism of Astrology

Even my STEM-centric friends tread lightly around dismissing astrology. They point the fact that science doesn't have all the answers.

They are now spotlighting astrology’s influence on historical giants like J.P. Morgan, Theodore Roosevelt, Einstein, Roosevelt, and Twain.
